 Voor de kallizine 5 van oktober waren dit de  kernwoorden voor de nieuwe opdracht:

This was the assignment for Kallizine 5 of October:

 

    - Book of Kells

    - Goethe

    - beitelpen

In 1998 (ja, lang geleden !) was ik  in Ierland en bezochten we Trinity College om te gaan kijken naar het Book of Kells. Indrukwekkend. 1 van de symbolen die je hierin vindt en ook nog in talloze andere monumenten ,is de driedubbele spiraal.

I visited Ireland in 1998 and also Trinity College of course, to go and see the famous Book of Kells. One of the symbols you can find in this book -and in many monuments across the country is the triple spiral.

 

Newgrange entrance stone

Dit symbool zou de achtergrond vormen voor dit nieuwe werk. So this symbol would become the backsplash to my new work.

1 van mijn vakken op unief was Duitse literatuur en daar kom je al snel Goethe tegen, natuurlijk. Met zijn vele quotes,daarentegen, was ik minder goed bekend.Daarom koos ik deze uitspraak van hem:

I got to know Goethe at university ,but was not very familiar with his many quotes. So, I chose this one for my text. I wanted to write his words IN the spiral.

"Every day we should hear at least one little song, read one good poem, see one exquisite picture, and, if possible, speak a few sensible words"

Deze quote wilde ik dan ook graag met de beitelpen en blauwe gouache IN deze spiraal schrijven.

 Zoals ik al voorspelde, hier een tweede reeksje geboortekaartjes voor mijn voorraad.

work for expo (flipkonijn)

 "Flipkonijn" which I made for the expo by Ann-Eline (www.lettergekletter.be) is finished.

I'll show you the pictures first, page by page and later on in this post you can also find the 'video'. And Ann-Eline's original work too.

Het werk dat ik maakte voor Ann-Eline's expo is klaar , ingeleverd en kan bekeken worden op de expo in Aarschot (zie affiche hieronder). Eerst zie je de foto's, blad per blad en onderaan deze post ook nog een kort filmpje.En het origineel van Ann-Eline.

ik gebruikte: zwart BFK rives papier - witte en oranje gouache- spitse pen - handgemaakte letter - en pootjesstempel-oranje DP en lintje

I used: black BFK rives paper - white and orange gouache - pointed pen - handcarved letter stamps and rabbit's foor stamp- orange DP for the box and ribbon.

 Nog eens in mijn collectie van collagepapiertjes gedoken...

I got lost in my archive of collage papers for a while...

Daarna wilde ik er nog eentje maken, maar met minder succes... Op het donkerblauwe papier viel moeilijk te schrijven, dus gebruikte ik stempels. Daarbij wilde ik eens iets proberen, nl 3 keer dezelfde stempel over elkaar; in wit, in blauw en terug in wit, maar viel niet zo mooi uit als ik in gedachten had. Nu ja, weer iets bijgeleerd.

I wanted to make another one, but with no success. It was difficult to write on the dark blue, so I decided to use stamps. I stamped the 's' three times; in white, in blue and in white again. Not as pretty as I had expected, but I learned something.

balsa wood cards

 Met een paar balsa houtjes en wat gouache, kan je al een heel eind komen. Zo zie je maar weer dat het niet steeds ingewikkeld hoeft te zijn.

With a couple of balsa woods and some gouache, you can come a long way. It shows again that it doesn't always have to be complex.

En ook de tweede badkamermat is klaar ondertussen.

I also finshed my second bathroom rug :

En dit is het begin van het laatste "matproject'; repen stof gesneden . De totale lengte hiervan is maar liefst 47 meter. Het moet dan ook een mat worden van 1m 20. Wordt vervolgd.

And this is the beginning of the last rug. These fabric strips are in total 47 m long, for a kitchen rug of 1.2 m. So, to be continued....

47 m

2 weken geleden konden we eindelijk weer terug naar de les en mekaar weer zien  in levende lijve ! Dit zijn oefeningen van een variant op de cursief. Een mooi en veelzijdig lettertype. Maar ik moet nog veel oefenen !

2 weeks ago, we could finally go back to the calligraphy lessons and physically meet again. Nice after such a long time ! Here I am practising on a variant of the cursive type. Nice to write and versatile, but I need to practise a lot still !
