warmest wishes

Deze tekst (de warmste wensen) schreef  ik met een spitse pen en watervaste inkt (in één beweging, dus zonder te stoppen) en dan ingekleurd met  4 kleurtjes aquarelverf. Ik gebruikte het ontwerp ook om zeefdrukjes mee te maken.

I first wrote the text (the warmest wishes) with a pointed pen and  indelible ink (in one go-so without lifting the pen from the paper) and then coloured  some of the spaces with watercolour paint. I also used this design to make some silk screen prints later.

LETTERLINO

2 vriendinnen verjaren ook overmorgen, op dezelfde dag dus: oudjaar.
Ik maakte thuis nog deze lino met 5 letters 'smile', maar omdat het geen les is op de academie (vakantie) kon ik het niet afdrukken (dacht ik) Zou het ook lukken met de 'cuttle bug' i.p.v. een linopers ? Ja dus ! Ik beinkte met gewone stempelinkt (rood en grijs) en kreeg dit resultaat :

The day after tomorrow 2 of my friends are having their birthday, so I made this lino with the word 'smile', but because it's a holiday (academy is closed) I couldn't print ...or could I?
I tried the cuttle bug instead of a press and it (kind of) worked. I ran it through the cuttle bug using plain red and grey stamp ink and these were the results....

Dan voegde ik nog een regeltje tekst toe:
I then added one line of text and finished !

whirling letters at Christmas

Maakte eerst met een passer een dubbele cirkel om mijn alfabet in te schrijven met plat penseel en grijze gouache. Dan de rest van de tekst in witte en rode kapitaaltjes en spitse pen . En nog wat 'spetters' toegevoegd.

I drew a double circle first with my compasses to write my alphabet with gouache and flat brush. Then I wrote the white and red small capitals with a pointed pen and finally added some splashes.

En verder heb ik ook nog - net voor de kerstvakantie- de lino's van vorige keer gedrukt.
Zowel zwart op wit als wit op zwart.
Welke vinden jullie het mooist ?

MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody !

En nog een paar foto's van mijn cactus op de vensterbank. Het is een kerst-cactus nu weliswaar !

If I could catch love / als ik ..

 Ik tekende eerst lijnen met gouache en plat penseel. In de andere richting een stukje uit de tekst. En dan de tekst (van Sukha) toegevoegd met wit stiftje, in eigen handschrift.
I first drew the lines with gouache and a flat brush. Sideways part of the text.(by Sukha). And then I wrote the text in a white fine pen.

Dit is een effect dat je enkel kan krijgen met een trekpen, of zoals hier :een colapen.
This effect can be achieved with a ruling-or colapen. Splash !

Ook heb ik uit de ontwerpen van vorige week een keuze gemaakt.
I also had to make a choice in the designs I showed you last week :

booklet + designs

Heb nog wat geoefend met de spitse pen en nadien dit boekje gemaakt:

And I have also been working on some designs to make etchings/linocuts in class. Haven't yet decided which one it'll be.
Daarnaast ook nog wat ontwerpjes gemaakt voor etsen en lino, maar heb nog niet beslist welke het gaat worden....Dat zal je later dan nog wel zien.

pointed nib

Zoals ik reeds in mijn vorige post vertelde, is de humanistische cursief kalligrafie ten einde , maar ondertussen zijn we gestart met de spitse pen.

practice, practice, practice

Gisteren was het de laatste les 'dynamische humanistische cursief' en dus heb ik nog eens flink geoefend:
Yesterday was the last lesson in the 'dynamic italic' series, so I practised a lot:

Ik zal zeker het penseel missen, maar vanaf nu is het de beurt aan een ander instrument: de spitse pen.
I'll definitely miss that brush, but now it's time for another instrument: the pointed pen.

Als taak moesten we een combinatie maken van plat penseel, het schrift met pen én gekleurd rijstpapier en omdat ik vorige week al een canvas maakte, werd het nu een kaart.

The assignment for this week was: make a combination of the letters in pen and with flat brush and coloured ricepaper. And because I made a canvas last week, now it became a card.

 De overschotjes van het collage-rijstpapier lagen nog op mijn werktafel, dus maakte ik er een aantal kaartjes mee.
Ze zijn bruikbaar voor een verjaardag of voor nieuwjaar (vind ik toch)

I still had  scraps of the collage rice paper lying around on my desk, so I made a few cards with these. multiple purpose: good for birthday cards and new year. (or so I think)
