Vandaag nog eens een nieuwe opdracht voor het "zomerproject 2017".

De opdracht van Chris luidde: "Maak met de initialen van je naam iets moois. Alles kan en mag".

Deze opdracht combineerde ik met de mijne:
"Teken een letter binnen een vierkant of cirkel. Je kan dan de binnenruimte verdelen in vlakjes ,die je dan inkleurt of opvult met tekst".
Voor deze opdracht liet ik me inspireren door deze foto's die ik zag op straat tijdens het shoppen in Hasselt.

Chris' assignment was: "Make something nice with your initials. Everything is possible"
I combined this with my own: "Draw a letter of your choice in a circle or square and divide the white space into different areas which you can then colour or fill with text".
I was inspired for the assignment by these 2 photos. I saw them in the street whilst shopping in Hasselt.

Dat is ook de reden waarom ik groen-blauwe tinten gebruikte hier en de vlakjes opvulde met doodles die me aan water deden denken.

I used blue-green colours because of the theme and filled the areas with doodles that reminded me of water.

De vlakjes maakte ik met een (dessert) bordje- I used a (dessert) plate to create these different areas

Een bedankje ook nog aan de nieuwe volgers/bezoekers van het zomerproject. Welkom !

Christopher Haanes: Vitalise your hands

Begin van de maand volgde ik de scriptores-zomerstage, begeleid door de noorse kalligraaf Christopher Haanes, in Turnhout. Een uitgebreid verslag zou wat té uitgebreid kunnen worden, daarom deze impressie:

At the beginning of the month I took a workshop with the Norwegian calligrapher, Christopher Haanes, in Turnhout, here in Belgium. To tell you what we did in this entire week, would lead me too far, hence a few pictures. An impression:

het wrijven van de Chinese inkt waarmee we moesten schrijven- preparing the Chinese ink we had to use

zijn aanpak van de formele italic en hoe deze te 'vitalizeren' m.b.v. 3 technieken: penstandmanipulatie, drukvariatie en het opbouwen van de letter - his approach to the formal italic and how to 'vitalise' it by means of 3 techniques: building up the letter, manipulating the slant and the pressure technique

an exercise of  me trying to apply these- een oefening van mezelf , het is moeilijk schrijven op zo'n korrelig papier, maar dat is ook deel van de charme ?

summer project: cat envelope

Een andere opdracht ik afwerkte was deze van Ria. Ria's opdracht was: maak aan de hand van een postzegel een passende briefomslag, gericht aan jezelf.
Het begon met het zoeken van een mooie postzegel op het internet en die had ik al snel gevonden.....

Another assignment I finished for 'summer project 2017'. Ria's assignment was to design an envelope based on the stamp, making sure it forms a kind of unity all together. Address the envelope to yourself.
I started looking for a stamp I liked on the Internet. I quickly found one...

Een kat natuurlijk ! Met net zulke gele ogen als die van ons.
Dan het hoofd van een kat getekend die net komt piepen en ingekleurd met aquamarkers
Nog een speels lettertype gezocht voor het adres.

I then drew and coloured the head of the cat and looked for a playful font for the address.
I also stamped a few cat paws for decoration.

En met deze stempelset nog wat kattenpootjes toegevoegd:

mijn naam werd met deze pilot-pen geschreven - wrote my name with a pilot-pen

Nu zal ik moeten doen zoals Mr Bean : een kaartje naar mezelf sturen !

Now I'll have to do the same as Mr Bean: send a card to myself !

summer calligraphy project 2017:"Le fou"

"Zomerproject 2017" is een project dat de hele zomer loopt en waaraan zo'n 40-tal kalligrafen deelnemen, o.l.v. Ann Arnauts.
Bedoeling is dat iedereen ideetjes voor een opdracht in de groep lanceert.
Je pikt er dan de opdrachten uit die je graag wil doen of waarvan je de uitdaging wil aangaan en je maakt zoveel opdrachten als je kan/wil.
Een aantal hiervan zal ik met jullie delen.

"Summer project 2017" is a project that runs throughout the whole summer. About 40 calligraphers take part in it and is presided by Ann Arnauts.
The aim of the project is that all participants choose assignments for the other group members.
You then choose the assignments you want to do/you see as a challenge for yourself and you do as many assignments as you like/can.
I'll share a few of them with you on my blog.

"Le fou , c'est toujours l'autre"

Wat ik jullie vandaag laat zien, is mijn uitwerking van de opdracht van Els Le Bruyn.
Haar opdracht luidde: Schrijf de zin 'Le fou c'est toujours l'autre' uit. Laat iets uitlopen en verwerk ook ergens goud, koper of zilver in.

The one I'll show today is Els' assigment: write this French sentence and make sure that something in your work flows out. Also use silver, bronze or gold in the work.

Hiermee startte ik dus: vlekken maken op papier met inkt, verf, bister e.d. en dan :blazen maar en hopen dat ze mooi 'uitlopen'....

I started by making papers like these: inks splashes I blew out with a straw. Part of the paper was used on this card. The text is written in pencil and the letters of the word 'fou' are die cut letters using thin foil.

de vlekken zijn gemaakt van blauw-paarse gouache en de tekst is geschreven in potlood. Het woordje 'fou' en het uitroepteken poste ik uit in zilverpapier.

Aangezien ik nog wat van deze 'drippings' overhad, maakte ik er nog een aantal:
I had some dripping paper left, so I made some more: 

dezelfde gouache als in de opdracht + potlood (gouache+pencil)

vloeibare aquarel + potlood (liquid watercolour paint+pencil)
