harmonica card

In this month's issue of the  magazine 'Letterpalet' (nr 137) I found a tutorial for a folded card with 'windows' I wanted to try out.

So I found this big (acryl) painted paper in burgundy, grey and black (from another project), just followed the instructions in the book and this was the result:

Because I have another birthday coming up, I added the words 'happy birthday' in Dutch and voila...

no drive

Haven't had a lot of drive this week, so this is the only (written) thing I can show you... Sorry about that. Guess  it all has to do with this whole C-crisis..
I designed the letters myself and coloured (pieces of) them in watercolour.

Boxmaking and bookmaking ,on the other hand, seem to work better for me these days. Soothing and relaxing. No fear of the empty page, just following up instructions with some background music..Chill.
That's why I tried another model from the Claire Van Vliet book.(scroll down, please)
You don't need any glue for this one, nor needle and thread. It's a concertina strip that gets kind of woven/interlocked with the page leaves. (hope that makes sense ?) . I made some other examples from this book in the past , check hier  and   here   .

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your Sunday !

de tekst moet nog toegevoegd worden...later - I'll add some lettering too-later....

panorama book finished

As promised, I'll show you today the card/book that I finished. M.will already have received  it.

And my brother's birthday card (on the same day) :

Maybe not so impressive as the first one, he'll first have to turn seventy for that....😀.

Sing Weaving

The last time I tried a binding from  Claire Van Vliet's book "Woven and interlocking Book Strucures"dates back from January ! (see this blogpost) Back then I tried "Aunt Sallie's Lament"
So time for a new experiment; the Sing Weaving

"The binding method for this book was suggested by Tanika weaving used by the Maoris to make flax fibre garments, mainly cloaks. The traditional colours are black, red and the natural fibre." (*)

I used Elephant Hide paper as it needs to be thin and strong to form the hinging, lokta paper for the X locking pieces and burgundy red drawing paper for the diamond locking pieces. The binding papers are Lana dessin drawing paper 100 lb.

The binding is non-adhesive; the strips of paperlock the weaving strips in place, NO glue was used. That's why every single  page on the inside is different:

circle book in black and white

A while ago I found a tutorial on a circle book on Pinterest. The pages were covered with magazine pictures and texts like a collage. A bit too "much" in my opinion, but I liked the technique, so I wanted to try something like it, but then with writing and texture.
This is what I did first :

I added some texture in the corners and folded and glued my pages till I got this book.

It's also possible to fold it like this:

closed book with covers

Zo is het boekje helemaal dicht. Zal wÊl nog een buitenformaat-omslag moeten maken. Maar dat is voor een andere keer....

cat haiku

For today's book I used the same binding technique as in my last post and the cat theme is also still there !
Bookbinding can be a bit addictive I found out and I wanted to know if it 'd also work with a non-traditional paper size like this diamond.

A cat haiku in Dutch . It's hard to translate, but it goes something like this: 'White snow betrays where soft catfeet kissed it". No,this sounds silly !

page 2 cat feet - blz 2: de poezenpootjes !

last page

(bron: Pinterest)

Conclusion: technically speaking it did work with this non-traditional paper size, but it was a lot more difficult to allign the paper. You need to be a lot more accurate here, plus I'm not at all sure whether I like this one better than the last. So maybe not worht all the effort.
But of course you need to try before you know !
