A couple of weeks ago I saw a coverage on the work of Ann-Eline Van Rompuy on our local tv station ROB. She creates the most amazing texts and poetry with the help of words cut out of newspapers. you can see what she does and how she does it here .

Since I'm still fiddling with my pencil lettering, it was nice to  to use one of her texts in this exercise.

I tried to give the letters some more 'body'

in English it is something like this: We take the scissors and cut this year apart and glue a new start for each other (www.lettergekletter.be)

pencil exercise 'bubbles'

I've been playing some more with my pencil 'cursives'. I 've come across the text a lot in the first couple of days of 2021. In English it means:

'May Corona become a beer again and Ranst a village. And may we only find bubbles in our glasses from now on.'

edit: Marc Van Ranst = not only the name of a village in Belgium but also the name of a famous pandemologist.

bubble: people in your family unit you can have close(r) contact with

I started with the first part of the text and then remembered an old stamp I could use here

I wanted to create this 'bubble-effect', but it didn't work out the way I wanted...

At last I tried to roughly colour a few of these 'bubbles', only to find that I didn't like it as much any more. Well, you can't always "win", right ?

Nog een fijne zondag !

Have a nice Sunday !

GFLCTRD

Hb,2B and 3B pencil on watercolour paper

GFLCTRD is just the word 'gefeliciteerd' or in English :congratulations, but without the vowels.
I was just looking for a short 'word' suitable for a simple pencil-composition. The full word was too long ,so I went for 'GFLCTRD'.
(Maybe CNGRTLTNS is already too long for this ?)

The letters are not written, but drawn and built up with HB,B2 and B3 pencils. I also tried to create gradient shades within the letters.

It was André Ooms, who taught me these letters. He's a man with a real passion for this instrument and he can work miracles with a 'simple' pencil. He's a great admirer of Amity Parks, too, but clearly has his own style.

This work, which I later turned into a card, is the result of an interesting workshop I took with him in May of this year and will be continued next year in part 2.

Life is...

This is a work I made, for which I had to step out of my 'comfort zone', particularly what the colour is concerned. These are colours I would not normally use probably.

First I thought about a nice composition with the pieces I had in hand: kraft paper, pigmented rice paper ,  rice paper I blockprinted and a piece from an old (French) dictionary.
As soon as everuthing had dried properly, it was ready for the text in pencil.

'Het leven is een groot pak vol met kleine dingen' -' Life is a big packet filled with small things'

congratulations

I made some watercolour sketches of which I used the best ones to glue behind this 'window'.
Then I wrote in pencil the 2 words in capitals over the paper and the watercolour paper and finally I wrote the word 'proficiat' (congratulations) in a stretched kind of italic underneath the window.

baby born

verjaardagskaart birthday card

Goeiemorgen, iedereen !

Good morning, everybody.

Today a card I made a couple of weeks ago for someone's birthday. She's already received it, so there's no harm in posting it now.
The text was written in pencil (capitals)
