my mum's birthday + letters in England: U V W

Eergisteren was mijn moeder jarig, dus maakte ik voor haar een kaartje, of eigenlijk een pop-up leporello.

For my mum's birthday I made this pop-up card:

een paar delen van letters ingekleurd met kleurpotlood - I coloured some parts of the letter with a coloured pencil

Ook een bijpassend doosje. En wat er in zit ?

Dit zeepje in hartvorm !             This heart-shaped piece of soap !

Het doosje met zeep en de leporello passen samen in deze andere doos. Een houten collagedoos die ik eerder dit jaar al maakte.

 Deze liet ik jullie vorige week al zien, maar heb er ondertussen tekst aan toegevoegd.
Ik had de tekst eerst in trekpen in klad gemaakt, maar vond de letters zelf maar niks. Ik vond enkel de contouren mooi, dus maakte ik 'm eerst zo:

eerst zo geschreven met trekpen, maar enkel de contouren gebruikt. - I first wrote the words like this, but only used the contours of the letters.

I showed you this one last week, but I felt like it needed some text. I first wrote the text (in scrap version) with a ruling pen, but didn't really like the letters. I did like the contours though...

 But then the letters looked so "empty", and  I decided to fill them partially up with pencil.

Maar toen leken de lettertjes plots zo 'leeg' dus vulde ik ze gedeeltelijk toch maar op....

Met een plat penseel kan je ook nog andere dingen doen dan schrijven.
Als 'opwarmer' trek ik vaak eerst een aantal strepen of lijnen of teken ik vlakken.
En daaruit zijn deze werkjes ontstaan....

With a flat brush you can do more than just write.
As a warming-up exercise, I often just start by drawing lines, bars, stripes,...

En, nu we't toch over letters hebben; misschien herinneren jullie je nog het Chillidaproject dat ik vorig jaar deed ?(hier  zie je bv nog de letters m en v). Wel, eindelijk heb ik hier een doosje voor gemaakt om ze allemaal in te stoppen !

Now that we're talking about letters; maybe you still remember the Chillida-project I did last year ? (you can see the letters m and v here  for example) Well, I've finally found the time to make a box to put them all in !
